At the start of a new year let’s celebrate some of the stars from Hollywood’s Golden Age. That’s Olivia DeHavilland above. She’s 101. That’s Kirk Douglas below. He’s also 101.
Patricia Morrison is 102.
And Norman Lloyd (you remember Saboteur) is 103
Marsha Hunt is 100.
And the woman pictured below is probably not as well known but was in movies in the 1930s starring in three films opposite Bing Crosby. Mary Carlisle is 103.
Long live Classic Movies.
FANtastic ages whether for HOLLYWOOD people or anyone else…
Of those mentioned, I personally have an connection with three of them.
Indirectly with Kirk Douglas through his son Eric -we were tour guides together at Universal Studios in 1977.
With fellow Universal alumni Norman Lloyd, who was not only actor, producer but Alfred Hitchcock’s assistant and friend for many years. Later on my friend from THE PRACTICE TV show Michael Badalucco, co-produced the 2007 documentary Who Is Norman Lloyd?
And finally Mary Carlisle through her actor/editor husband James Blakeley, who I knew very well from working at 20th Century-Fox. He retired from there when he was around 90.
When you look back at your life, you meet so many people and particularly in HOLLYWOOD, the links are incredible.
Marsha Hunt certainly outlived all those that blacklisted her. And Olivia DeHavilland continues to live more than twice as long as her most iconic leading man Errol Flynn.
Who would have thought old HOLLYWOOD people could live to see all their old movies live on… in digital HD downloads!
