Mystery Family Photo — Now You Know!

Ah-ha, you say!

Now that you see the Mom who was cropped out of our mystery photo published last Monday, it’s easy to recognize the Luft family of the 1950s.

She, of course, was one of the most recognizable stars of the 20th century. Although, we add, she looks a bit more full figured in this domestic shot.

Hello, everybody.  Joe Morella and Frank Segers, your classic movie guys, here to start another week with a mystery photo.  This time, we are photographically filling in the blanks of last week’s reader challenge.

Judy Garland and Sid Luft were married in June of 1952, and stayed that way for the next 13 years or so.  He was her third husband.  Husband No. 2 was director Vincente Minnelli. She was Luft’s second famous wife (the first was actress Lynn Bari).

Anyway, he was about seven years her senior, born in 1915.  A former talent agent in the Forties, Luft was a tough, no nonsense character (given to occasional barroom fisticuffs), who took charge of Garland’s career during their union.  He was the producer of 1954′s A Star Is Born remake as well as several of her tv specials.

The girl to the left became a pretty well-known show biz personality, although not as famous  as her half sister. She is Lorna Luft with her little brother Joey. (Half-sister, of course, was Liza Minnelli.)

That’s Lorna (above) as she is today. Joey Luft, with half sister Liza (also above), has stayed out of show business but does appear occasionally at retropectives about his mother’s career.

Sid Luft died seven years ago, 36 years after Garland’s death.
